Fresher Survival Guide Part 3: Food on Campus

You’ve done your orientation and you’ve got your timetable, but because you’ve got your priorities in line what you REALLY want is a guide to everywhere you can get snacks on campus, and how to stay budget-friendly when you really, really don’t want the sad sandwich you brought with you.

This is that guide.

Guild Cafes

Quobba Gnarning

Bottom floor of Reid Library isn’t just for studying (read: procrastinating) – you can get excellent coffee, snacks and hot meals too! During exams when Reid is open 24/7, Quobba hours extend until midnight most nights so you can stay hydrated and fed while you late-night cram.
BUDGET PICKS: Penne $4.95, meatballs less than $5, Paella $3 (it's also vegan and gluten-free)!

Hackett Cafe

The home of our famous rotating dessert specials! Every couple of weeks brings a new insane special, usually around the $5 mark. The brekky at Hackett is also one of the best and budget-friendly around, with a full spread of options including vego and vegan! This semester has a bunch of new menu items including churros (!!) and smashed avo on toast.

Catalyst Cafe

Our other library café, Catalyst lives in Barry J. The brekky bar has a bunch of to-go options, you can build your own salad for lunch, and it’s the only Guild Café with cold brew coffee!

Business School Café

We’ve moved into the Business School this year 🎉 We’ve brought with us different hot wok meals every day of the week, cooked up by the amazing chef behind the famous Village Café hot food spread! There’s also homemade pies for just $5.50, some exclu dessert specials PLUS on Fridays you can get fish & chips for $7.50!

Nedlands Café

Need something to keep you going on the Nedlands campus? We’ve got you covered. Drop in for a coffee and a waffle (you deserve it) and take a seat – it’s a good spot to take a break! Food options include sandwiches, sushi, salads, pies and snacks.

Dentistry Kiosk

Tucked into the Oral Health Centre, behind the J. Robin Warren Library with coffees, a selection of hot food, and grab & go items.

The Tav

The one and only $10 Student Lunch deal (9’ pizza, chips and a softie) is truly legendary on campus and insanely good value, and from this semester the Tav has daily food specials with everything from a $12 parmy on Mondays to a full freaking KILO of wings for $12.50 on a Wednesday.
And of course, the student-priced drinks go down a treat as well 😏

The Ref

Campus Kebabs

These guys do amazing kebabs, HSPs, salads and chips – and they’re open until 9pm every night! And yes, they are halal and there’s vego/vegan options!

The Cutting Board

Salads, sandwiches and pastas made fresh every day, plus a decent brekky spread!

Chinese Canton

The exact meal you want during a long day of classes to get you through – build your own Chinese feast or order a freshly made noodle soup!
BUDGET TIP: Always do the rice last at the self-serve (maximise precious container space), and after 3pm, you can get a cheeky $5 ready-made meal 😎

Coffees, hefty smoothies and seriously good baked goods (brownies and cinny buns!) are the staple at the UWA branch of the Stirling Highway-based coffee roasters. You’ll also find the odd Mary St Bakery donut or Toastface Grillah toastie - show your Guild sticker for 10% off!

IGA Xpress

NEW ON CAMPUS with a bunch of grab & go options and staples at supermarket prices. Perfect for snacks, lunch, or stop in on your way home for last minute essentials. There’s also IGA favourites like a big ol’ bakery, fresh juices, hot popcorn and slushies!

Also in the Ref:

Crowd favourites and old reliables Utopia, Subway and Boost Juice!
