2025 UWA Young Leaders Council – Save the Date!
The UWA Young Leaders Council is a subsidiary council of the UWA Student Guild, established in partnership with the University of Western Australia with the goal of connecting student leaders from across Western Australia and developing practical and applicable leadership skills to be utilised within the school and broader community contexts.
Our goal is to promote a better understanding of leadership in a university setting by highlighting the work of the UWA Guild and other community leaders, inspiring and assisting attendees to develop their own initiatives through a series of conferences and workshops. These are typically run as day-long workshops throughout the year, with each workshop having a different focus and theme.
In 2025 Young Leaders Council workshops will be held on:
- Monday, 14th April – Mental Health, Accessibility and Inclusivity
- Friday, 18th July - Motivation and Leadership
At the first workshop, students will have the opportunity to hear from Paralympian, Amber Merritt, and her journey living with an invisible disability. Amber received a silver medal at the London Paralympics and attended Tokyo Paralympics for Wheelchair Basketball. She will share her experience as an athlete, including the highs and lows of her career, and how she felt the pressures of mental health and physical wellbeing.
The second workshop will feature Jon Haines, the former General Manager of the Gold Coast Suns AFL team. Jon was awarded a Churchill Fellowship on the topic of global best practice in character development and the relationship with leadership impact and cultural dynamics. He will present his 'Rock Solid Character' workshop, teaching students the importance of being an inclusive, welcoming leader.
Please note speakers may change at short notice.
