Earlier this month, the UWA Student Guild passed a motion reaffirming its stance against Australia Day and standing in solidarity with WASAC and First Nations students. The UWA Student Guild operates on the land of the Whadjuk Noongar people, and the Menang Noongar people at the Albany Campus. This land was stolen and never ceded. It always was and always will be Aboriginal land.
While UWA will be closed on January 27, your Guild President Bre Shanahan and other students reps will be in the office like on any other day.
You too can support the Indigenous community by doing any or all of the following:
- Joining your reps at the Invasion Day Rally on Sunday
- Head along to One Day in Freo, at the Kidogo Arthouse Precinct for a showcase of Aboriginal food, culture and music with a particular emphasis on young and emerging talent.
- Support WASAC events
- Get involved in Naidoc Perth
And if you want to get in touch with your student reps (tomorrow or on any day), you can phone 6488 3773 or email the relevant person.
