Does Science Provide the Best Way to Know About the World?
Science is an inescapable part of modern life. We use science to make informed decisions, evidence in debates and discussions, and of course dedicate significant amounts of time to studying and understanding it. But as science becomes the preeminent way of understanding the world, other ways have been sidelined. Religious and spiritual ways of thinking about the world are considered "irrational". Philosophical studies such as metaphysics has also been condemned by philosophers themselves!
This begs the question, does science provide the best way to know about the world? If it does, why? Is there anything science can't provide knowledge about? Are those ways of knowing actually knowledge about the world? Does science reflect a mind independent world or does it construct mere conceptions about it? Can we reconcile the ever-changing nature of science with the idea that it reflects the way the world is? Where and how does science go wrong?
Join us to discuss the philosophy of science!
