SLAYA: Avurudu Games

Avurudu is the Sinhalese word for New Year. The Sri Lankan new year occurs in mid-April and is traditionally celebrated with a New Year festival. The festival includes a variety of sporting activities, along with choreographed dance, a food fair and much more. However, due to the recent turmoil in Sri Lanka, an Avurudu festival was not held in WA this year. Although the traditional festival was not held this year, SLAYA still wants to provide the opportunity for our members to participate in the sporting events played during Avurudu.  

This event will be a round robin tournament of sorts. Teams of 8 will compete in the following 6 games; tug of war, egg and spoon race, sack race, three-legged race, eye of on the elephant and cricket.
