Just because you’re stuck at home doesn’t mean you have to
give up on your fitness! Whether you’re a gym regular or keen to get started, we
have found some VERY budget-friendly (read: FREE) fitness apps to check out, as
recommended by the Guild Sports Department! Kill some time or take a break from
Zoom tutes and do your brain and your body a favour.
KIXXFIT
KIXXFIT is a local WA app, developed by a couple of UWA alumni!
The app is free to download, provides a dedicated platform for on-demand movement, nutrition and mindset sessions from Australian health expert. The free version is similar to Spotify – a few ad breaks and you can’t skip through sessions, but it has UNLIMITED use and you can still schedule in sessions! There’s over 350 sessions in there and more being added every day with everything from meditation to HIIT sessions to nutrition advice for when it’s snack time.
Users can stay fit and healthy at home, and coaches can join the ultimate coaching community. It’s an app that is made by real coaches for people living real lives!
BONUS: Sign up to KIXXFIT with your UWA email account and email [email protected] with your username - the first 20 will receive a promo code for a FREE PRO MEMBERSHIP!
Yoga for Beginners
Isolating can be stressful and overwhelming. Yoga is a great way to calm your mind and move your body while improving your strength and flexibility from your living room. Yoga for Beginners is the perfect way to get started, and you can progress at your own pace!
Centr by Chris Hemsworth
If it’s good enough for Thor, it’s good enough for us! Take major advantage of the extended 6-week FREE trial (usually up to $20 a month) for workouts, recipes, advice and tips from a bunch of trainers selected by Chris himself. And it's not just the high-intensity stuff - there's also yoga and guided meditations. The best place to start? Sign up and read The Essential Guide to Centr During COVID-19 article to see how to get the most out of your free trial!
Nike+ Training Club
Join your fellow living room athletes – workout for FREE from Nike, with workouts for all fitness levels. Sessions are anywhere from 15-45 mins, and the app also includes nutrition advice and help from experts if you need it. Doesn’t matter if you don’t have any equipment – there’s something in there for everyone including yoga, HIIT, strength and mobility training.
Gold’s AMP
Brought to you by the iconic Gold’s Gym, Arnie’s stomping ground is online and it’s currently FREE until May 31 (usually $10 a month)!! Turn your home gym into an Iron Temple, or check out the bodyweight workouts if you’re lacking equipment. It also has a library of DJ mixes to keep things fresh – because sitting at home can get very stale.
Track your cardio
If you didn’t put your cardio on Strava, did you even do it?
Join the FREE online community to check out routes and challenges, follow your friends
or even just track your progress! It’s not just for running either – you can
track walks, cycling, swimming or just about any type of exercise.
You can also track your runs through other free apps like Runtracker or Runkeeper
– they’ll give you all the stats you could ever need.
